Tikka Masala Spice Blend — Blend No.1

Chicken tikka masala is so loved it's been called Britain's national dish — and this is the blend to make the real thing at home. Rich, creamy and warmly spiced, ours recreates that curry-house classic without the takeaway price tag. A creamy, crowd-pleasing curry on the table in 30 to 40 minutes.

What it tastes like

Warm, rich and aromatic — coriander and garlic with paprika, cardamom and ginger, and a gentle cayenne warmth. Mild to medium and creamy rather than fiery, brightened by a touch of kaffir lime.

Cook this tonight

  • Marinate chicken in the blend with yoghurt, then simmer in a tomato-and-cream sauce for a classic tikka masala — serve with rice and naan.
  • Make it meat-free with paneer, chickpeas or roasted cauliflower in the same creamy sauce.
  • Use it dry as a rub on chicken or fish, then grill or BBQ for tikka skewers.

How to use it

A little goes a long way — one to two teaspoons is plenty for a family meal for four or five. For the classic, marinate your chicken in the blend and a little yoghurt first, then build a sauce with onion, tomato and cream or coconut. Fry the spices off early to deepen the flavour. It's just as good with paneer and veg as with chicken, so experiment.
