Ras El Hanout — Blend No.12
The name means "top of the shop" — the best a Moroccan spice trader had to offer. There's no single fixed recipe, so over time we've built ours to do two jobs well: a BBQ rub, and the backbone of a proper Moroccan-style stew. It turns a flat midweek dinner into something that tastes like you meant it — and it does it in 30 to 40 minutes.
What it tastes like
Warm and aromatic rather than fiery — cinnamon and rose against earthy cumin and coriander, with just enough cayenne to keep it interesting. Fragrant, not hot.
Cook this tonight
- Rub it over chicken thighs or lamb, then grill or roast — serve with couscous and a squeeze of lemon.
- Stir into a tomato-and-chickpea stew for a hearty veggie meal with flatbread.
- Toss with roasted carrots, squash or cauliflower for a side that outshines the main.
How to use it
A little goes a long way — one to two teaspoons is plenty for a family meal for four or five. As a rub, be generous on the meat and let it sit for half an hour if you have time. In a stew, add it early so it can bloom. It loves plain sides — couscous, rice, flatbread — that let the blend do the talking, and a squeeze of fresh lemon at the end really lifts it. Works just as well with fish and meat-free options, so experiment.

I am not overly competent or knowledgeable about Thai cooking but have discovered a few recipes that have become firm favourites. I am unable to find this in my usual supermarket so rely on ordering this on reg basis from Amazon and it doesn’t disappoint. Only downside is that it is fairly pricey
Zaatar is one of the most popular brands in the worldwide spice market: a friend of mine likes cooking spicy dishes, so, as a sign of thanksgiving for her invite to have dinner together, I decided to offer her a pack of mixed spices. There’s no doubt in order to the high quality of the product, but it’s not worth purchasing a low quantity of spices for a definitely huge amount: maybe I’ve got nearly blind, but I still can distinguish spices from precious metals.
Excellent service excellent product and tasted excellent to .
We had never come across this spice, and decided to try it. So far it has added flavour to a soup, and we anticipate it will be a useful and interesting addition to our spice rack.

Love it!
It is mild but just enough for a small kick! You can tell the quality of the spices
JAPANESE 7 SPICE. This spice mix is absolutely delicious. I use this as a rice seasoning, a small amount sprinkled on hot rice. It packs a punch so a little goes a long way, so even though its packaged in a small amount it lasts ages. Hot, citrus and nutty from the sesame seeds. I will be buying again, and again.
Doesn’t tell you how much to use per g of meat which is annoying As you have no idea what it’s like until it’s cooked lol. That’s the only reason I didn’t give 5 stars
Love 5 spice, but love 7 spice even more
Bought this to use when making ramen - i sprinkle over the top of my eggs for extra punch. It does the job, adding an extra kick.
More practical than bottled versions
Very good
