Malay Satay Spice Blend — Blend No.24
Satay is a takeaway and restaurant favourite — and it's far easier to make at home than you'd think. Our blend is the heart of a creamy, peanutty satay sauce, fragrant with lemongrass and lime leaf. If you love peanut sauce, you'll be hooked: a genuine fakeaway on the table in around 30 minutes, for a fraction of the restaurant price.
What it tastes like
Fragrant, citrusy and gently spiced — lemongrass and lime leaf with coriander, cumin, turmeric and ginger, and a little chilli warming the back of the palate. Aromatic and moreish rather than fiery.
Cook this tonight
- Make our Malay Satay Chicken with Sweet Soy Noodles — chicken in a coconut-and-peanut sauce over kecap-manis egg noodles, topped with toasted peanuts.
- Stir into a coconut curry or beef rendang for a rich Southeast Asian dinner.
- Season chicken, prawns, tofu or veg before grilling or pan-frying for quick satay-style skewers.
How to use it
A little goes a long way — just one teaspoon is plenty for a family meal for four or five. Fry it with your chicken and onion to wake up the lemongrass and lime, then build the sauce with coconut milk and peanut butter. It works beautifully with chicken, beef, prawns, tofu and veg, so experiment.
