Meatballs are used the world over and are more commonly known as Kofta’s which refers to meat that has been minced and formed into balls or placed on a skewer.
It is believed that the Swedish version originated in Turkey, but this is no real surprise as many foods have unexpected origins. The world has been trading for hundreds if not thousands of years. The Swedish meatballs have their own blend of spices and tend to be not too big. They are traditionally eaten with gravy and mash potato.

Spice Master Tips
Cream - Classic Swedish meatballs use creamy gravy, you can omit this if you prefer.
Potatoes - For perfect mash use starchy potatoes such as Russets, avoid waxy potatoes. Make sure the potatoes are as dry as possible after straining to make them fluffy.
Skins - Most of the flavour of the potatoe is actually contained in the skin. If you wash them before peeling and add then to your milk in a bowl while the potatoes boil you will really increase the flavour of your mash. Take them out and discard before adding the mashed potato.
