Blend No.2 Cajun - Associated with Louisiana and the deep south, used in Creole cooking.  It is a wonderful style of cooking that we love, it is all about flavour. 

As a BBQ rub it will bring your meals alive, cook a spatchcock chicken on the BBQ in less than 40 minutes and serve with a simple salad, coleslaw and some crusty fresh bread.

Cajun  was originally cooked in a single iron pot, typically on an open fire.  With our Cajun mix and recipe card you can make a tasty dish in less than 30 minutes.

Amazing Flavours

All of our spice mixes are hand blended by us to our own recipes in small batches. Our suppliers source our spices direct from the producers all over the world so you get fresh, full flavoured spices that take your cooking to another level.

We cannot tell you how much of a difference using the right spices can make. It is difficult to keep all the spices you need to make these dishes, so buying them here, already blended, will save you time and also money as you will typically get 5 meals for 4 people from one 50g tin or 50g refill packs.

We wanted to make it easy for everyone to cook our meals. If you can chop, fry and grill you’ll be able to cook any of our tasty meals in no time. We’ve put together a super easy full proof recipe for every one of our blends. There is also a shopping list of everything you will need and the recipe can be downloaded and printed out.

We have a passion for cooking healthy; all our blends are made just from spices and herbs, not loaded with sugar and other additives that don’t need to be there. All our blends are also vegetarian and vegan friendly.

Cajun Gumbo

Cajun Gumbo

Blend No.2

Creole cooking at its best, it’s easy and oh so tasty! We’ve used a meat substitute for a vegetarian version but this can simply be replaced with chicken, prawns or chorizo.

This recipe serves 4

Heat Level: Mild

Ready in 30 minutes

Shopping List

2 celery sticks - sliced

2 green peppers - diced

2 medium carrots - peeled and sliced

1 large onion - small dices

3 spring onions - sliced

3 tsp Spicemasters Cajun spice mix

350g meat substitute pieces

300ml vegetable stock

3 tbsp plain flour

2 tbsp chopped parsley


1. Prepare your ingredients.

2. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large frying pan.

3. Fry the onion, carrot and celery for a few minutes or until it starts to brown.

4. Add the flour and stir to form a paste.

5. Add the Cajun spices and continue to stir.

6. Start adding the vegetable stock, a little at a time, so that the flour thickens the stock.

7. Once all the stock has been poured in add the meat substitute pieces and peppers and stir.

8. Cover the pan and simmer gently for 10 minutes.

9. Add the parsley and spring onions, stir in, serve and enjoy.

Spice Master Tips

Frying - Frying the onions, carrots and celery for a few minutes allows them to develop flavour.

Flour - We use flour to thicken the sauce. By adding it at this stage the flour is cooked out so that you will not taste it in the finished dish.

Stock - We add the liquid slowly to the pan so that we can mix it with the flour paste. Adding it too quickly will create lumps in the sauce and will not allow it to thicken.

Fresh - We add some ingredients towards the end. These are often delicate flavours and we want to add a fresh note to the dish.
